Every church is slightly different and so even if you have been to a church before there are probably things that you want to know about CBC before visiting us for the first time. We will try to answer those questions here.

Do you have anything specifically for children and young people?

Yes we do. Most weeks our children and young people are part of the main service for about 20 mins and then leave for their own activities at about 10.50am. We also have a creche for pre-schoolers and you are welcome to leave your children there, or stay with them if they are not used to the setting.

When should I arrive?

Most weeks our service is at 10.30am. If you arrive at about 10.20am that will give us time to say ‘hello’ and answer any questions you may have. 

What should I wear?

Whatever you feel comfortable in. Some people will be dressed quite casually in jeans and t-shirt, others may be slightly more formal.

I have additional needs – am I welcome?

Absolutely. We believe that everyone is made in the image of God and therefore we are all valued by God. We have made some attempts to make our buildings and services accessible and welcoming – but if you discover that we’re falling short then please accept our apology and do let us know and we will do our best to put that right.

The church building and the Centre have step-free access and flexible seating so wheelchairs can be easily accommodated. Both buildings also have an accessible toilet.

We are a sight-loss-friendly church. Song words etc are projected onto a large screen (white text on a black background) and handheld printed copies are available as required.

We actively seek to be inclusive and include as many different people as possible over a range of services.

What will happen in the service?

Going anywhere for the first time can be a bit of a nerve-racking experience. To help avoid any worries here’s a quick summary of what you can expect at Comberton Baptist Church. Everyone of us had a first day at this church – even if it was a long time ago. If you don’t understand something then please ask.

• When you arrive you will be greeted by someone at the door. If you tell this person that it is your first time they will give you a welcome pack which will explain a little more about our church. 
• You are free to sit anywhere you like – someone will help you with extra chairs etc if necessary.
• The first part of the service can vary from week to week but it will usually include a time of ‘worship’ – during this time there will be a number of songs, a reading from the Bible and some prayer. 
• Unless it is an all-age service the children and young people will go to their own groups at about 10.50am. If you are a visitor and have children, your children are welcome to go out too. All those who work with children at CBC have obtained the relevant DBS checks. • Then we have a talk from the Bible (sometimes called a sermon). Although the Bible is an old book it remains relevant and meaningful for our modern lives. This talk will help us to live as followers of Jesus, whether you are at college, or work, or home, or …
• Then we usually have a few minutes to respond to what we’ve heard – maybe a time of quiet, or prayer or singing.
• After our service tea and coffee is served (this is usually about 11.45am). Please stay if you can.
• Whether you have never been to church before, or have been a Christian for a long time we hope that our services will be an encouragement and help to you.

What if I don’t know anything about the Bible?

God’s word, as revealed in the Bible, is the foundation of our faith. However, we do not assume any level of Bible knowledge or understanding, explaining everything as we go. More important than Bible knowledge is a desire to discover truth and live a life in the light and knowledge of Jesus. Every single one of us is continuing to learn more each day. One of the amazing things about the Bible is that even when you have read a passage a hundred times before you can still read it and discover something new.

Where do I park?

We have a small car park on-site where you can park if there is space. There is also plenty of free on-street parking immediately outside the church. All we ask is that you are considerate towards our neighbours.
